Materials Technician Apprenticeship (Level 3)

About the role

Join Kiwa UK as a Materials Technician Apprentice and support the testing of soils and ground conditions on construction sites. This hands‑on, outdoor role will give you practical and technical experience in geotechnical testing while you work alongside experienced colleagues.

Key responsibilities

• Travel to construction sites to collect soil samples and perform geotechnical testing.
• Carry out plate testing, including settlement and CBR tests, and record results accurately.
• Check and maintain testing equipment before use.
• Support basic sample preparation in the laboratory after field work.
• Follow health and safety procedures at all times.

Required profile

• Practical and reliable, enjoys hands‑on work.
• Comfortable working outdoors in wet and cold conditions.
• Attention to detail with accurate record‑keeping.
• Committed to health and safety on construction sites.
• Problem‑solver who can work independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Plate testing (settlement and CBR).
• Soil sampling and preparation.
• Operation and maintenance of geotechnical testing equipment.
