Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a specialist engineering company in West Sussex. The role involves designing machinery for customer projects, R&D initiatives and product development, reporting to the Lead Engineer.

Key responsibilities

• Design machinery for customer projects, R&D initiatives, product development and cost‑saving improvements.
• Conduct equipment testing, occasionally in the presence of customers.
• Take full ownership of design, development and release of machines for manufacture, including creation of build manuals, user manuals, statutory and testing documentation.
• Hold technical meetings with customers to understand requirements and issue technical documentation while adhering to ISO procedures.

Required profile

• SolidWorks competency.
• Experience with SolidWorks/EPDM Vault (advantageous).
• Strong IT skills, including MS Office applications.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Good understanding of pneumatic control systems.
• Knowledge of ATEX and CE marking requirements (preferred).
• Ideally 5+ years’ experience within the packaging machinery industry or a related sector.
