Mechanical Fitter – Rolling Stock (2 positions)

About the role

We are supporting a leading train operator at their Cambridge depot and are looking for two Mechanical Fitters to join the rolling‑stock maintenance team. You will work night shifts on a 4‑on/4‑off roster, delivering high‑quality overhauls and repairs to keep the fleet running safely and on time.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mechanical and electrical overhauls of rolling stock, including bogie, wheel set and gearbox work.
• Repair and re‑profile wheel sets, bearings, axles and related components.
• Carry out TBU (traction brake unit) revisions and replacements.
• Maintain tooling, equipment and calibrated instruments in line with VMI guidelines.
• Document all work accurately and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Participate in briefings, safety tours and ongoing training programmes.

Required profile

• Ability to work safely both individually and as part of a team.
• Commitment to following VMI instructions and company procedures.
• Willingness to work permanent night shifts on a 4‑on/4‑off pattern.
• Good housekeeping and communication skills.
