Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a specialist engineering business that provides maintenance, refurbishment and installation support to manufacturing and industrial clients across the UK. The role is based in Witham, Essex and involves travelling to customer sites throughout the South East, East Anglia, London and occasional projects in the Midlands.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on a wide range of conveyor systems.
• Rebuild, refurbish and repair mechanical components and assemblies.
• Attend customer sites to diagnose faults and perform repairs.
• Install, modify and upgrade conveyor systems and associated equipment.
• Work closely with customer maintenance teams to minimise downtime.
• Complete maintenance reports and relevant documentation accurately.
• Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with site procedures.
• Travel to customer sites across the South East, East Anglia and London, with occasional overnight projects in the Midlands.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Technician or similar.
• Experience working with conveyor systems is highly desirable.
• Apprentice‑trained in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• FMCG manufacturing experience would be advantageous.
• Basic electrical fault‑finding or maintenance experience beneficial.
• Strong mechanical fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and represent the business professionally on customer sites.
• Full UK Driving Licence required.
