Mechanical Project Engineer - London

About the role

1st Step Solutions is supporting a leading UK mechanical engineering company in its London team, looking for an experienced, proactive Mechanical Project Engineer. The role covers the day-to-day coordination and management of mechanical and HVAC works across a range of construction environments, working with Project Managers, site teams, subcontractors, suppliers and clients. It runs from pre-construction and procurement through installation, commissioning and handover.

Key responsibilities

• Support planning, coordination and delivery of mechanical and HVAC projects from pre-construction to completion
• Manage subcontractors, suppliers and site activities to meet the project programme
• Review technical drawings, specifications, schedules and other project documentation
• Assist with project programmes, procurement, purchase orders and delivery monitoring
• Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and other stakeholders
• Attend project, site and coordination meetings and monitor quality and progress
• Ensure works follow approved drawings, specifications, RAMS and industry standards
• Prepare project documentation such as RFIs, technical submittals, progress reports and records
• Monitor expenditure, variations and procurement against agreed budgets
• Coordinate inspections, testing and commissioning, and support O&M information and handover
• Follow health and safety procedures, identify risks and escalate issues to the Project Manager

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Project Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Building Services Engineer or similar construction role
• Experience on mechanical and/or HVAC projects
• Good understanding of mechanical building services installations and construction processes
• Ability to read technical drawings, specifications and project documentation
• Experience coordinating subcontractors and suppliers
• Understanding of health and safety requirements in construction
• Relevant Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or construction qualification desirable
• CSCS or relevant industry competency card, and SMSTS or SSSTS, desirable
