Mechanical Technician

About the role

The Mechanical Technician will join the engineering team at Ayrshire Central Hospital, providing essential building‑services support across the hospital and other community premises. This permanent, full‑time position works within a caring, safe and respectful NHS environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver routine and complex mechanical maintenance tasks in a hospital setting.
• Maintain heating, ventilation, air‑conditioning and decontamination systems.
• Participate in an on‑call rota and provide support to other hospitals in Ayrshire as required.
• Report directly to the Mechanical Supervisor and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Required profile

• Completion of a recognised apprenticeship with extensive experience in mechanical services.
• City & Guilds Craft Certificate/Level 3 (or equivalent) in the relevant trade.
• UK driving licence – essential for on‑call duties.
• Ability to travel to the hospital within 30 minutes.

Required skills

• Heating, ventilation and air‑conditioning (HVAC) systems.
• Decontamination equipment maintenance.
• General mechanical maintenance of building services.
