Medical Laboratory Assistant – Blood Processing

About the role

The Medical Laboratory Assistant will join the Blood Processing and Distribution Department of the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service. You will work in a regulated environment handling untested blood and other bio‑hazardous materials, supporting the delivery of safe blood products across Scotland.

Key responsibilities

• Process and distribute blood components in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.
• Handle bio‑hazard material safely, following strict health and safety protocols.
• Operate laboratory equipment and maintain accurate records of all activities.
• Work shifts that include nights, weekends, and on‑call periods, with appropriate shift payments.
• Participate in quality‑control checks and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Organised, enthusiastic, and detail‑oriented.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to undergo a Disclosure Scotland check and, if applicable, an overseas criminal record check.
• Residency in the UK with the right to work.
