Mental Health Assistant – Primary School (Devizes)

About the role

We are looking for a compassionate Mental Health Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Devizes. The role involves supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, including autism and additional learning needs, ensuring they feel safe and ready to learn.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one support to pupils to help them regulate emotions and stay focused during lessons.
• Deliver small‑group interventions aimed at building social skills, confidence and resilience.
• Use behaviour management strategies to calmly de‑escalate challenging situations.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils to foster a sense of security.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, SEN staff and external professionals to tailor support.

Required profile

• Patient, resilient and empathetic attitude.
• Confidence working with children who have SEN, SEMH or behavioural needs.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build rapport quickly.
• Genuine interest in mental health, psychology or child development.
• Willingness to obtain an enhanced DBS check and right to work in the UK.

Required skills

• Team Teach training (or willingness to undertake).
• MAPA (Managing Anxiety and Panic Attacks) training.
• CPI (Child Protection and Intervention) training.
