On‑Site Electrician – HMP Berwyn

About the role

Amey is looking for an on‑site Electrician to join the facilities‑management team at HMP Berwyn in Wrexham. You will be responsible for delivering safe, compliant and timely electrical maintenance across the prison estate, working within a 39‑hour weekly shift pattern.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure health and safety standards are met on all electrical work.
• Test and inspect electrical installations in line with the latest IEE wiring regulations.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns, carrying out repairs safely and efficiently.
• Perform planned and preventative maintenance, diagnosing and replacing failed domestic electrical components.
• Carry out fault finding and problem‑solving on domestic electrical systems.
• Install electrical systems according to designs and IET Wiring Regulations, and monitor critical spares and the BMS system.

Required profile

• Relevant technical qualification (City & Guilds 2365 parts 1‑3, BTEC, NVQ level 2 or 3).
• Knowledge of BS 7671 (18th Edition) and Electricity at Work Regulations.
• Experience of electrical maintenance, distribution and testing (preferred but not essential).
• Ability to work independently, use initiative and work at heights.
• Willingness to obtain Prison Security Clearance.

Required skills
