Ophthalmology Assistant – Band 3

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Ophthalmology team at the National Treatment Centre – Highland as a Band 3 Ophthalmology Assistant. The role is patient‑focused, supporting a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, efficient and high‑quality eye care across a range of outpatient clinics and treatment pathways. You will work across the Ophthalmology service, assisting with patient assessment, preparation and flow through various treatment pathways.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with patient assessment, preparation and flow through various ophthalmology outpatient clinics.
• Undertake delegated clinical and technical duties following appropriate training and competency assessment.
• Collaborate closely with registered nurses, specialist practitioners, optometrists, medical staff and other team members.
• Contribute to the delivery of safe and efficient ophthalmic care while maintaining high standards of quality.

Required profile

• Enthusiastic, motivated and caring individual who enjoys working with patients.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills, able to thrive in a fast‑paced clinical environment.
• Willingness to learn and develop new skills, with openness to training and competency‑based development.
• Previous experience in ophthalmology is advantageous but not essential.
