Part‑time Payroll Technician (Fixed‑term)

About the role

Trant Engineering is seeking a part‑time Payroll Technician to join its central service team on a five‑month fixed‑term contract. The role is based in Southampton, working Monday to Wednesday (7.25 hrs per day, 21.75 hrs per week).

Key responsibilities

• Process weekly and monthly payroll runs, including hours, overtime, bonuses and deductions.
• Maintain accurate employee records in the payroll system and support system updates.
• Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, pension contributions, statutory payments and GDPR requirements.
• Respond promptly to payroll queries from employees, managers and liaise with HR and Finance to resolve discrepancies.
• Escalate any payroll anomalies to senior staff and assist with audit‑ready documentation.

Required profile

• Proficiency in payroll software and strong MS Excel skills.
• Knowledge of UK payroll legislation and compliance.
• Experience processing payroll for a medium‑sized company.
• Working towards a payroll qualification (CIPP desirable).
