Payroll Specialist

About the role

We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to join Sona’s payroll bureau and take ownership of UK payroll processing for a portfolio of customers. The role is fast‑paced, supporting a growing volume of payslips and requiring proactive client communication.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end UK payroll processing for standard and mid‑complexity clients across multiple pay frequencies.
• Manage payroll queries via the support desk, providing fast, proactive updates and meeting SLA targets.
• Process statutory payments, pension auto‑enrolment, HMRC filings (FPS, EPS) and year‑end reconciliations.
• Upload, reconcile and submit payments through BACS, Faster Payments and SEPA and maintain payroll journals.
• Build strong client relationships, attend meetings when needed and flag product bugs to Engineering.

Required profile

• 2+ years of hands‑on experience processing UK payrolls independently.
• Experience in a bureau or outsourced payroll environment is a plus.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a busy queue of support tickets.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• Methodical and accurate under high volume, quick to flag issues.

Required skills

• Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, concatenation).
• Google Suite.
