Payroll Supervisor – Fixed Term (12 months)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Supervisor to join a Liverpool‑based charity on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. You will lead the payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely processing for multiple locations while liaising with an outsourced payroll provider.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, train and manage the payroll team, including line‑management of the people team administrator.
• Provide data for 4‑weekly and weekly payrolls for Lancashire, Merseyside and Scotland to the outsourced provider.
• Ensure all payroll data is submitted accurately and on time, complying with statutory and contractual obligations.
• Act as the primary internal liaison with the outsourced payroll provider and maintain data integrity.
• Raise ad‑hoc payments, advances or liabilities outside normal pay runs.
• Support end‑of‑year processes and submit required information to HMRC and pension providers.
• Develop and conduct regular audit checks to verify payroll accuracy.
• Assist in improving payroll‑related business processes and contribute to workforce development projects.

Required profile

• Proven payroll experience (essential).
• Previous supervisory or line‑management experience.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
• Ability to meet strict deadlines and work under pressure.

• £33,000 per annum.
• 25 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays.
