Pharmacist – Secondary Care (Acute Medicine & Surgery)

About the role
The NHS Lanarkshire pharmacist role delivers patient‑focused pharmaceutical care within a secondary‑care setting, supporting acute medicine, surgery, emergency and primary‑care services.
Key responsibilities
- Provide high‑quality, patient‑centred pharmaceutical care and ensure timely supply of medication and advice.
- Participate in consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Deliver patient education on safe and effective use of medicines and medical devices.
- Assess patients' pharmaceutical needs, develop and implement care plans.
- Review and analyse medication and patient information, offering specialist advice on drug administration and therapy adjustments.
- Supervise and conduct dispensing, clinical and technical checking of discharge prescriptions and aseptically prepared products, including systemic anticancer therapies (SACT).
Required profile
- Masters of Pharmacy degree.
- Registered member of the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Independent Prescribing qualification (or commitment to obtain within a reasonable timescale).
- Ability to work under pressure, plan, prioritise and organise workload.
- Experience in patient information and education.
- Capability to monitor therapeutic regimens to ensure effectiveness and reduce toxicity.
- Commitment to revalidation as required by the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
