Police Vehicle Technician

About the role

Join the Thames Valley Police fleet team as a Police Vehicle Technician. You will maintain a diverse range of marked and unmarked police vehicles, ensuring officers have reliable, safe transport for their duties.

Key responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on a fleet of over 4,000 police assets.
• Follow manufacturers' repair instructions, using specific methods, tools and techniques.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults, employing industry‑recognised test equipment.
• Manage warranty jobs end‑to‑end to maximise returns from manufacturers.
• Inspect and road‑test vehicles, recording measurements and data accurately.
• Read and interpret wiring diagrams and use diagnostic software and interactive guides.
• Maintain high‑technology test equipment and ensure it is correctly configured.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in vehicle maintenance and repair, preferably within a fleet environment.
• Ability to follow detailed technical instructions and manufacturer guidelines.
• Commitment to personal development and ongoing training on police‑specific equipment.

Required skills

• Mechanical, electrical and hydraulic system assessment.
• Electrical fault diagnosis using high‑ and low‑technology test equipment.
• Use of diagnostic equipment and interactive software tools.
• Interpretation of wiring diagrams.

What we offer

• Full‑time, 5‑day week (37 hours) – Mon‑Thu 08:00‑16:00, Fri 08:00‑15:30.
• Salary Band 3F/3G (£35,245‑£39,241) inclusive of a £4,000 market supplement.
