Powertrain Direct Commodity Buyer – Automotive Purchasing

About the role

We are seeking a Direct Commodity Buyer to manage power‑train component procurement for a forward‑thinking automotive organisation. You will play a pivotal role in supporting the transition from internal‑combustion engines to electric vehicles, ensuring the supply base delivers value, quality and reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Develop sourcing strategies aligned with the shift to battery electric vehicles, balancing cost, quality and efficiency.
• Conduct benchmarking and market testing to maintain a world‑class supplier base.
• Prepare and complete sourcing documentation in line with programme timelines and cost targets.
• Place production purchase and tooling orders following established purchasing procedures.
• Monitor supplier quality performance and drive cost‑reduction initiatives through negotiation and collaboration.
• Negotiate raw‑material contracts and manage distressed suppliers to safeguard supply‑chain stability.

Required profile

• Proven purchasing experience within the automotive industry, supported by a degree or equivalent experience.
• Strong business acumen with excellent written and verbal communication.
• Clear understanding of automotive industry challenges and how procurement can support business objectives.
• Demonstrated negotiation ability with a record of delivering cost reductions.
• Experience working in cross‑functional teams and solid project‑management capabilities.
