Principal Engineer – Site Asset Safety Verification

About the role

BAE Systems is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the safety verification of site assets and infrastructure. You will author and manage design substantiation documentation that underpins the nuclear safety case for the Barrow‑in‑Furness site. The role offers a hybrid working model with occasional on‑site visits.

Key responsibilities

• Produce and maintain design substantiation documents for nuclear safety cases.
• Review analyses, assessments and calculations that support nuclear design substantiation.
• Coordinate periodic safety reviews and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with Site Safety Case, Human Factors and Engineering Authority teams.
• Lead deliverables with a high degree of autonomy and provide technical guidance to stakeholders.

Required profile

• Experience in a complex or high‑risk industry such as aerospace, oil & gas, shipbuilding or weapons.
• Degree qualification or equivalent apprenticeship in a STEM discipline.
• Proven ability to produce high‑quality technical reports.
• Strong stakeholder management and leadership capabilities.

Required skills

• Ability to develop and author technical documentation for nuclear safety substantiation.
