Principal Transport Planner – Development Planning

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Transport Planner to lead development‑led transport projects for a growing consultancy in Bristol. The role offers genuine ownership of projects, client relationship development and the chance to shape the future direction of the transport planning team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development planning projects from feasibility and pre‑application through to planning submission and delivery.
• Prepare and review Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, access appraisals, feasibility studies and technical notes.
• Provide transport and access advice to developers and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Liaise with local planning authorities, highway authorities, clients, planning consultants, architects and other stakeholders.
• Support planning applications, conditions, S106/S278 matters and technical approvals.
• Manage project programmes, budgets, deliverables and client expectations.
• Review technical work and mentor junior team members.
• Contribute to business development, fee proposals and client account growth at Principal level.

Required profile

• Strong UK development planning experience within a consultancy environment.
• Proven ability to prepare and review transport‑related technical reports.
• Excellent communication, commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience managing budgets, programmes and client relationships.

Required skills

• Proficiency with TRICS.
• Proficiency with TEMPro.
