Project Accountant

About the role

This is a hands‑on finance position within a fast‑growing technology business based in York. The Project Accountant will join a small, dynamic finance team and will be responsible for project accounting, operational cost management and revenue recognition.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and control project costs and revenue, ensuring accurate accounting.
• Perform R&D financial analysis and identify qualifying claims.
• Support month‑end close, produce reconciliations and comment on variances.
• Identify process inefficiencies and develop improved systems as the business scales.
• Partner with Project Managers, challenge assumptions, explain variances and highlight risks.
• Forecast and plan costs, calculate transfer prices and track net working capital KPIs.
• Deputise for the Financial Controller as you develop in the role.

Required profile

• Qualified or part‑qualified accountant.
• Tenacious, quick learner with strong communication skills.
• Comfortable working in a complex, fast‑moving environment.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel.
• Experience with SAP (preferred but not essential).

What we offer

• Hybrid working – two days per week in the York office.
• Salary range £50,000 – £55,000 per year.
• Up to 12% bonus.
