Psychology Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant (Full‑Time)

About the role
This full‑time, term‑time position is designed for a recent psychology graduate who wants hands‑on experience supporting children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) in a specialist day school.
Key responsibilities
- Assist students inside and outside the classroom, helping them access learning and develop independence.
- Work alongside teachers, therapists and healthcare professionals to deliver personalised learning plans.
- Encourage communication, confidence and social development through structured activities.
- Support community‑based and outdoor learning outings, ensuring safety and inclusion.
- Provide personal care and physical assistance where required, including for medical conditions.
- Help students build life‑skills such as emotional regulation, sensory coping strategies and transition planning.
Required profile
- Recent graduate with a degree in Psychology.
- Passion for working with children and young people with complex needs.
- Commitment to a term‑time, 40‑hour week schedule (Monday‑Friday, 8:30‑4:30).
- Willingness to work in a specialist, NAS‑accredited school environment.
Required skills
- Understanding of autism spectrum conditions, ADHD, learning difficulties and mental health challenges.
- Ability to follow safeguarding and health‑care protocols.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for building trusting relationships with students and families.
