Qualified Lawyer (Grade 7) – Government Legal Department

About the role

The Government Legal Department is seeking qualified lawyers (Grade 7) to join its team across several UK locations. You will work alongside ministers and departmental officials, providing legal advice, guidance and handling a varied caseload that impacts public policy and services.

Key responsibilities

• Advise government departments on legal matters and draft legislation.
• Provide guidance and risk‑based advice to senior officials and ministers.
• Manage a caseload covering litigation, advisory, commercial, employment and EU law.
• Collaborate with other legal professionals across the civil service.

Required profile

• A qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.
• Strategic and creative thinking applied to complex legal issues.
• Strong judgement, impartiality and the ability to communicate complex matters clearly.
• Collaborative mindset and ability to work at pace in a customer‑focused environment.
