R&D Tax Manager

About the role

We are looking for an experienced R&D Tax Manager to join a growing accountancy and advisory firm in Manchester. The role will lead the full R&D tax relief claim process for a diverse client portfolio, working closely with accountants and tax specialists while developing technical expertise and client relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Manage R&D Tax Relief claims from initial enquiry through to submission.
• Own a portfolio of clients, ensuring a high-quality client experience.
• Prepare detailed, technically robust R&D tax reports.
• Calculate and review qualifying R&D expenditure and claim values.
• Liaise directly with clients to understand projects and gather supporting evidence.
• Stay up-to-date with legislation and HMRC guidance on R&D Tax Relief.
• Support the growth and development of the R&D Tax team.
• Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.

Required profile

• Minimum three years’ experience managing R&D Tax Relief claims.
• Strong technical knowledge of UK R&D Tax Relief legislation.
• Proven ability to manage multiple client assignments simultaneously.
• Excellent written communication and report-writing skills.
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
• Commercially aware and committed to delivering exceptional client service.
• Confident communicator with strong relationship-building abilities.
• Comfortable using modern digital tools and working in a hybrid environment.
