Registered Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner – Theatres & Critical Care

About the role

The NHS Tayside Theatre Team at Ninewells Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) to join the Theatres and Critical Care area. This full‑time position involves delivering evidence‑based peri‑operative care across a 36‑hour week with day and night rotations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality nursing care to patients undergoing surgery and in critical care settings.
• Assess, plan and implement peri‑operative care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
• Support the operating department by preparing equipment, maintaining sterile fields and assisting during procedures.
• Rotate between sites within NHS Tayside as required to meet service needs.
• Adhere to NHS policies, health and safety standards, and continuous professional development requirements.

Required profile

• Current registration on the UK NMC register (Sub‑part 1 RN1/RNA or Sub‑part 2 RN2) or equivalent ODP qualification (HPC ODP NVQ Level 3/Diploma).
• Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt to changing clinical environments.
• Demonstrated flexibility to work day and night shifts and to cover multiple locations.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to peri‑operative practice.
