Religious Education Teacher – Secondary School (Wakefield)

About the role
We are supporting a reputable secondary school in Wakefield that seeks a passionate Religious Education (RE) teacher to join its Humanities department from September 2026. The role involves delivering engaging RE lessons to Key Stages 3 and 4, with the possibility of teaching Key Stage 5 for the right candidate.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high‑quality RE lessons aligned with the National Curriculum and the school’s syllabus.
- Encourage students to explore diverse religious beliefs, ethical issues, philosophical concepts and cultural perspectives.
- Assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback to support attainment.
- Prepare students for GCSE Religious Studies examinations and aim for strong outcomes.
- Contribute to the wider Humanities department, including enrichment activities, assemblies and educational events.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- A degree in Religious Education, Religious Studies, Theology, Philosophy or a related subject.
- Experience teaching RE at secondary level in the UK.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and pupil welfare.
Required skills
- Knowledge of the UK National Curriculum for Religious Education.
- Ability to design lesson plans that promote critical thinking and respect.
- Experience preparing students for GCSE Religious Studies assessments.
