About the role
The Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa (FLIA) at LSE is seeking a Research Officer to support its partnership with the British Institute in Eastern Africa (BIEA). The role will focus on producing high‑quality peer‑reviewed publications and disseminating research grounded in recent qualitative PhD work conducted in Eastern African countries.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and publish peer‑reviewed research on Eastern Africa within social science and humanities disciplines.
- Collaborate closely with the BIEA Director to build and sustain a network of researchers working on Eastern Africa.
- Apply for research funding, including collaborative grants that involve BIEA and FLIA as partners.
- Coordinate academic events, workshops, and dissemination activities.
Required profile
- PhD (or near‑completion) in a relevant social science discipline such as politics, sociology, international relations, anthropology, or international development.
- Demonstrated experience conducting qualitative fieldwork in one or more Eastern African countries.
- Proven track record of securing research funding and publishing in high‑quality academic journals.
- Experience organising and managing academic events.
