Safeguarding Manager – Lead for National Organisation

About the role

The Safeguarding Manager will lead the development and implementation of safeguarding frameworks for a complex, values‑driven national organisation. Reporting to the Head of Governance and People, you will combine strategic oversight with hands‑on case management to protect children and adults across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, reviewing and developing policies, procedures and frameworks.
• Manage and assess safeguarding concerns, making informed, defensible decisions.
• Oversee referrals, liaise with statutory agencies and ensure compliance with legislation.
• Provide expert advice to staff, volunteers, elected representatives and senior stakeholders.
• Design and deliver safeguarding training and awareness programmes.
• Produce regular safeguarding reports, assurance updates and performance data for senior leadership.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure data handling meets required standards.
• Drive continuous improvement through learning, policy development and best‑practice implementation.

Required profile

• Significant experience managing safeguarding cases involving children and/or adults.
• Recent experience within a charity, membership, voluntary sector or similarly complex organisation.
• Proven track record developing and implementing safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance and referral pathways.
• Experience delivering safeguarding training to diverse audiences.
• Excellent judgement and ability to make complex safeguarding decisions.
