School Caretaker – Hodge Hill, Birmingham

About the role

We are recruiting an experienced School Caretaker for a secondary school in Hodge Hill, Birmingham. The role starts at the end of August 2026 and runs until the end of the academic year, providing a safe, secure and well‑maintained environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Open and lock the school, holding keys and ensuring security throughout the day.
• Carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs such as painting, decorating, basic plumbing and replacing light fittings.
• Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of buildings and grounds, including emptying bins and litter picking.
• Set up classrooms, halls and other spaces for meetings and school events.
• Move furniture, equipment and deliveries around the site as required.
• Monitor health and safety, report and address hazards promptly.
• Liaise with and supervise contractors working on the premises.
• Work closely with the school leadership team to uphold high standards of premises upkeep.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Site Manager, Caretaker or Premises Assistant (essential).
• School experience desirable but not mandatory.
• Reliable, proactive and able to work independently.
• Commitment to safeguarding and maintaining a safe school environment.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
• Two satisfactory references covering the last two years of employment.
• Right to work in the UK.
