Science Technician – Secondary School

About the role

EdStaff is looking for an organised and reliable Science Technician to support a fast‑paced secondary school science department in Skelmersdale. The role starts in September 2026 and runs full‑time until December 2026, providing essential assistance for practical lessons across biology, chemistry and physics.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, set up and clear away equipment, materials and chemicals for practical science lessons.
• Support teaching staff in delivering safe, curriculum‑aligned experiments.
• Maintain, clean and store laboratory equipment, ensuring it is ready for use.
• Conduct routine checks, maintenance and stock control of laboratory resources.
• Order and monitor consumables to keep the department well stocked.
• Adhere to health and safety regulations, including COSHH and risk assessments.
• Prepare chemical solutions and materials according to departmental guidance.
• Assist with the organisation of laboratories, prep rooms and storage areas.
• Support staff and students during practical activities where appropriate.
• Keep accurate records of inventory, equipment maintenance and safety checks.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Science Technician, Laboratory Technician or similar support role.
• Right to work in the UK.
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics at grade C/4 or above.
• Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
• References covering the last two years.
