SEN Teacher – Year 1 Autism Specialist

About the role
We are a welcoming specialist school in High Barnet seeking a compassionate SEN Teacher to lead a Year 1 class of nine pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The role starts in September 2026 and offers the chance to shape a highly supportive, sensory‑aware learning environment.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and deliver lessons aligned with individual EHCP outcomes.
- Assess, monitor and record pupil progress, adapting learning as needed.
- Lead a team of four Teaching Assistants to ensure consistent high‑quality support.
- Create a structured, sensory‑friendly classroom atmosphere.
- Collaborate with therapists, parents and multidisciplinary teams.
- Support pupils’ communication, social development and independence.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Experience teaching pupils with ASD and complex SEND needs.
- Strong understanding of communication and sensory‑based approaches.
- Proven ability to plan, assess and track progress for pupils below age‑related expectations.
- Excellent classroom management and teamwork skills.
- Patient, resilient and positive attitude.
