Senior Accountant / Client Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced practice accountant to take full ownership of a diverse SME client portfolio in a well‑established independent firm on the Wirral. The role blends compliance work with advisory opportunities and offers a clear path for progression.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a varied portfolio of limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
• Prepare and review statutory accounts, corporation tax returns and personal tax returns.
• Identify tax‑planning opportunities and advise on accounting, taxation and business matters.
• Maintain deadlines, workflow and quality standards across the portfolio.
• Review junior colleagues’ work, provide guidance and mentor junior staff.
• Collaborate with senior leadership on advisory assignments and practice‑development projects.

Required profile

• ACCA, FMAAT or equivalent professional qualification.
• Minimum five years’ experience in a UK accountancy practice.
• Proven experience managing your own client portfolio.
• Strong technical knowledge of UK accounting and taxation.
• Confident communicator with business owners.

Required skills

• Proficiency with cloud‑accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent or Sage.
• Familiarity with TaxCalc (beneficial but not essential).
