Senior Accountant – UK

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to lead our UK‑based accounting practice. The role combines technical accounting expertise with team leadership, ensuring high‑quality service for SME, contractor and business clients.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the practice and supervise a team of accountants and junior staff.
• Review client work for accuracy, compliance and quality, providing training and performance feedback.
• Manage bookkeeping, VAT returns and full set of accounts for UK clients using QuickBooks Online, Xero and other cloud platforms.
• Handle bank and credit‑card reconciliations, resolve discrepancies and maintain client financial records.
• Standardise Chart of Accounts across clients and integrate accounting software with internal workflow tools.
• Improve internal processes using Karbon, Asana, ClickUp and monitor project accounting to support business decisions.
• Ensure timely delivery of reports, management accounts and financial insights to senior management.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in a UK‑based accounting practice, preferably ACCA qualified or part‑qualified.
• Proven experience managing teams and supervising junior staff.
• Strong knowledge of UK accounting, VAT and tax regulations.
• Excellent communication, client relationship and analytical skills.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines.
