Senior AI Engineer

About the role

Barclays is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to design and build advanced machine learning and AI solutions that detect financial crime, prevent fraud, and protect customers. You will work closely with data scientists and engineers to develop scalable ML pipelines, agentic AI systems, and production‑grade model code.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement and support mathematical, statistical and machine learning models used in business decision‑making.
• Build and maintain scalable, modular Python applications and robust generative AI solutions at scale.
• Own the full AI/ML lifecycle from data exploration to deployment, ensuring governance, documentation and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with technology teams to define data, environment and tool dependencies for analytical solutions.
• Provide ongoing support and monitoring for deployed models, ensuring stability and performance.

Required profile

• Extensive experience developing scalable, maintainable Python applications.
• Proven track record deploying observable, well‑tested generative AI applications using frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, Anthropic SDK, AWS Bedrock, CrewAI.
• Strong background in machine learning development, including training, evaluating, deploying and monitoring models at scale.
• Experience with deep learning/NLP frameworks like PyTorch and Hugging Face.
• Solid understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns and MLOps/LLMOps practices.
