Senior Architect / Project Architect - Principal Designer

About the role

An established and growing architectural practice in Manchester is looking for an Architect / Project Architect to join its team, with the chance to take on Principal Designer responsibilities across a range of projects. The practice covers justice, public sector, commercial, residential and heritage work, and suits someone who enjoys both design and technical delivery and wants greater responsibility for project coordination and design risk management.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to projects through design development, technical design and delivery.
• Take responsibility for Principal Designer duties, coordinating health and safety considerations throughout the design process.
• Identify, manage and communicate design risks to stakeholders.
• Coordinate the design team and work closely with clients, consultants and contractors.
• Develop and coordinate detailed design information using Revit.
• Prepare and review technical information, construction drawings and specifications.
• Manage project packages, including deadlines, quality and coordination.
• Attend client, consultant and project meetings.
• Support and mentor more junior team members.

Required profile

• Qualified Architect with relevant UK experience.
• Previous experience carrying out Principal Designer duties is highly desirable.
• Experience on courts, prisons or wider justice-sector projects is highly advantageous.
• Experience across relevant RIBA stages.

Required skills

• Strong Revit skills are essential.
• Good understanding of design risk management and the Principal Designer's responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of UK construction, technical design and detailing.
• Strong communication, coordination and organisational skills.
