Senior Claims Handler - Care Team

About the role

Markel's Care Claims team handles complex, high-impact claims for organisations and individuals, and is looking for a Senior Claims Handler to join its Leeds team. The role is hybrid, with four days in the office and one day at home. It suits someone currently in insurance claims or private practice, offering more ownership, a broader caseload and the chance to move into a strategic, decision-making role.

Key responsibilities

• Own a diverse, complex caseload across multiple lines: Employers' Liability, Public Liability, Professional Indemnity / Professional Negligence, Personal Injury, Management Liability, Cyber & Commercial Crime, and inquests and sensitive safeguarding matters.
• Manage claims from initial notification through to settlement.
• Develop and drive your own claims strategy.
• Work closely with policyholders, brokers and solicitors, handling high-value and occasionally high-profile claims.
• Build strong customer relationships and deliver good outcomes.

Required profile

• Claims handling experience or a legal background (solicitor / legal executive).
• Exposure to EL / PL / liability claims, personal injury or professional negligence.
• Ability to manage complex cases independently.
• Genuine interest in care sector work and comfort with sensitive, sometimes challenging cases.
• Highly desirable: insurance claims experience, care / healthcare background, and multi-line claims exposure.
