Senior Communications Officer (Interim)

About the role

The Local Authority in Cheshire is seeking an experienced Senior Communications Officer on an interim basis. You will lead high‑profile communications campaigns across key council services, ensuring residents, partners and stakeholders are effectively engaged.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and advise on complex strategic communications and PR campaigns.
• Manage multiple concurrent campaigns, meeting deadlines and budget constraints.
• Collaborate with internal clients and external partners to set measurable objectives.
• Evaluate campaign performance and report outcomes to senior leadership.
• Commission creative communications materials, publications and digital content.
• Identify and mitigate reputational risks, responding to sensitive issues promptly.
• Provide strategic communications advice to senior stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering communications and PR campaigns within a complex organisation.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship‑management abilities.
• Demonstrated capacity to manage several projects simultaneously.
• Experience in identifying and managing reputational threats.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Understanding of how strategic communications translate into operational delivery.
• Previous experience in local government or the public sector is highly advantageous.
