Senior Database Engineer

About the role

LSEG is looking for a Senior Database Engineer to join its DataScope Database Administration team, which manages more than 400+ Sybase ASE, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and Azure/AWS cloud-based database environments across development, testing, pre-production and production. The engineer works with application development, QA, infrastructure, cloud and product teams to deliver reliable, scalable and secure database solutions, and contributes to project delivery, database modernization, automation, performance optimization and cloud adoption.

Key responsibilities

• Review database designs for new initiatives, enhancements and defect fixes, evaluate change impact and coordinate release planning, testing and deployment
• Implement database updates while maintaining stability and data integrity
• Design, develop and maintain database tools, utilities, automation scripts, maintenance scripts, reports and monitoring solutions
• Support database testing with QA teams and give technical guidance on troubleshooting and root cause analysis
• Support cloud deployments and modernization in Azure/AWS, including capacity planning, migrations and infrastructure upgrades
• Handle incidents such as performance issues, data discrepancies and availability problems, tune performance and support disaster recovery, failover and backup testing
• Build automation scripts and tools, document procedures and best practices

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Experience administering and supporting enterprise database environments, including Sybase ASE (16.x) and Azure/AWS SQL managed instances
• Experience supporting databases on RedHat Linux
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills in complex production environments
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
• Desired: experience in the financial industry

• SQL performance tuning, stored procedures, triggers and database optimization
• Automation scripts in Python, Bash or Perl
• Database replication, high availability, backup, recovery and failover knowledge
