Senior Design Engineer - Power

About the role

We are supporting a leading engineering and infrastructure organisation in their search for a Senior Design Engineer to join their Power team in Crewe. The role involves leading the design and delivery of AC and DC power supply projects within a highly regulated environment, acting as both Design Responsible Engineer (DRE) and Contractor's Responsible Engineer (CRE).

Key responsibilities

• Develop and review AC and DC power supply designs, including cable and protection calculations.
• Produce technical specifications and design documentation.
• Act as Design Responsible Engineer on allocated projects and undertake CRE duties when required.
• Review and verify third‑party design submissions.
• Provide technical support to construction, commissioning and project teams.
• Manage client and site technical queries.
• Lead design reviews, risk reviews and issue design warning notices.
• Drive best practice, continuous improvement and value‑engineering initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality and environmental standards.

Required profile

• Degree qualified in Electrical or Power Engineering (BEng minimum).
• Extensive experience in power distribution design, including AC and DC traction systems.
• Experience with substation equipment, protection systems, LV distribution and railway integration.
• Previous CRE‑D experience and familiarity with MicroStation CAD.
• Strong technical report writing skills.
