Senior Embedded Software Engineer – Defence & Security

About the role

We are seeking a senior embedded software engineer to design and deliver mission‑critical tooling for national security and defence customers. The role combines hands‑on development across ESP32, Raspberry Pi and ARM platforms with close collaboration with end‑users on‑site.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development of bespoke embedded solutions on multiple hardware platforms.
• Design, implement and maintain production‑grade C, C++ and Python code that interfaces with peripherals.
• Architect communication protocols, peripheral integration and performance‑critical features.
• Conduct debugging, testing and optimisation in both laboratory and field environments.
• Shape requirements with stakeholders, influence delivery plans and ensure secure deployment.
• Maintain high‑quality documentation, enforce Git workflows and code‑review standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and raise overall team capability.

Required profile

• Extensive hands‑on experience in embedded software development.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ (and Python where appropriate).
• Deep knowledge of low‑level interfaces such as UART, GPIO, USB, SPI/I²C.
• Comfortable working in Linux‑based development environments and toolchains.
• Excellent debugging skills using JTAG/SWD, logic analysers and profiling tools.
• Clear communication and ability to influence technical decisions.
