Senior Lecturer – Rural Health Sciences

About the role

The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) is seeking a Senior Lecturer to join its Centre for Rural Health Sciences. Based at UHI House in Inverness or the North, West and Hebrides campus in Stornoway, the role focuses on leading and developing postgraduate education for health professionals serving rural, remote and island communities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide academic leadership for the postgraduate taught portfolio, overseeing programme development, delivery and continuous improvement.
• Design, deliver and assess modules, ensuring alignment with professional standards and workforce needs.
• Supervise student projects, dissertations and research activities.
• Contribute to undergraduate teaching as required.
• Engage in curriculum innovation, quality assurance and strategic planning.
• Collaborate with NHS partners, community organisations and international collaborators.

Required profile

• Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
• Significant experience in higher education teaching, preferably at postgraduate level.
• Demonstrated record of curriculum development and academic leadership.
• Strong commitment to supporting learners in rural and remote settings.

Required skills

• Expertise in nursing or midwifery education.
• Knowledge of postgraduate curriculum design and assessment.
• Ability to supervise research projects and dissertations.
• Experience working with NHS and community health partners.
