Senior Legal Counsel – Pharmaceuticals (Associate Director)

About the role

Britannia Pharmaceuticals is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel (Associate Director) to provide commercially focused, pragmatic legal support within a highly regulated pharmaceutical environment. Working on a hybrid basis (three days onsite), you will act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders and help manage legal risk across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including supply, procurement, services, HCP, consultancy, pharmacovigilance, and strategic partnership contracts.
• Advise business units on pharmaceutical regulation, ABPI/PMCPA Code requirements, and GxP frameworks (GMP, GMDP, PV).
• Provide oversight on data protection and governance matters, ensuring GDPR compliance and effective risk management.
• Identify legal risks, flag material issues, and support escalation processes.
• Partner with commercial and medical teams to enable compliant decision‑making.
• Coordinate with global legal teams to maintain consistent approaches across jurisdictions.
• Manage relationships with external counsel and contribute to process improvements such as contract templates and legal operations.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent).
• Minimum 5 years post‑qualification experience, preferably within the pharmaceutical or life‑sciences sector.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously in a lean legal team and handle a broad remit covering commercial, regulatory, and governance matters.

Required skills

• Strong commercial contracting and drafting abilities.
• In‑depth knowledge of ABPI/PMCPA frameworks, pharmaceutical regulation, and commercial contract law.
• Practical, solutions‑focused approach with sound risk judgement.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
