Senior Litigation Lawyer – Locum (Greater Manchester)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Litigation Lawyer to join a Greater Manchester Local Authority on a three‑month locum assignment, with the possibility of extension. The role is full‑time and requires immediate start, focusing on prosecution work in the Magistrates’ Court.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of prosecutions and regulatory matters.
• Prepare and conduct prosecutions in the Magistrates’ Court, including trading standards, planning enforcement and other regulatory offences.
• Draft and review legal documentation, reports and committee papers, ensuring compliance with legislation and authority procedures.
• Represent the authority at court hearings across Greater Manchester, delivering cases efficiently within tight timescales.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor (or equivalent) with recent experience in local government.
• Proven experience managing varied prosecution cases at Magistrates’ Court.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
