Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

MDA Space is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its UK team in Stevenage, Harwell or Manchester. You will lead the mechanical design of satellite subsystems, electronic units and spaceborne instruments, turning ambitious concepts into flight‑ready hardware.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings using Siemens NX, setting quality standards for the team.
• Lead design of mechanical components and assemblies from concept through delivery.
• Produce and review engineering drawings in compliance with ISO and ECSS standards.
• Perform tolerance analyses and drive robust, manufacturable solutions.
• Own configuration control and documentation, ensuring process compliance.
• Interface with structural, thermal and systems engineers, providing mechanical leadership.
• Lead or co‑lead design reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR) and mentor junior engineers.
• Support multiple programmes simultaneously, including optical and telecom payloads.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in mechanical design for space or satellite hardware.
• Proven ability to lead design reviews and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of ISO and ECSS engineering standards.
• Experience managing configuration control and documentation.

Required skills

• Siemens NX for 3D modelling and drawing creation.
