Senior Platform Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to design, build and continuously improve the cloud platforms that power critical digital services across the nation. You will work in a collaborative engineering community, shaping standards and delivering secure, resilient, and observable platforms at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Design and operate secure, scalable multi‑cloud landing zones, primarily on AWS.
• Build GitOps‑driven Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) that enable self‑service for engineering teams.
• Modernise legacy environments into cloud‑native architectures.
• Create unified observability solutions using OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana and modern APM tools.
• Drive reliability, operability and performance improvements through Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
• Implement secure CI/CD pipelines with a strong DevSecOps focus and software‑supply‑chain integrity.
• Deliver event‑driven automation and infrastructure capabilities.
• Lead FinOps initiatives to optimise cloud consumption across large estates.
• Apply platform‑as‑a‑product principles to develop reusable, scalable engineering capabilities.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers and influence engineering standards.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience designing and operating production‑grade cloud platforms.
• Hands‑on technical leadership with the ability to influence strategy and standards.
• Strong collaboration skills working with delivery teams, architects and client stakeholders.
• Commitment to mentoring and supporting other engineers.
