Senior Practice Accountant – Taunton

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Practice Accountant to join a friendly, growing accountancy practice in Taunton. The role is hands‑on and client‑facing, offering the chance to manage a diverse portfolio while working within a small, collaborative team.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare year‑end accounts for a varied client base.
• Compile and submit personal and business tax returns.
• Carry out bookkeeping tasks and complete VAT returns.
• Process client payrolls and address payroll queries.
• Support clients with Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliance.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, providing advice as needed.
• Liaise with HMRC and other third parties.
• Assist in the day‑to‑day management of client portfolios and support the wider practice team.

Required profile

• Previous experience in an accountancy practice.
• Strong all‑round knowledge of accounts, taxation, bookkeeping and payroll.
• Proven ability to work directly with clients and manage relationships.
• Good understanding of Making Tax Digital (MTD).
• Ideally qualified to AAT level or equivalent experience.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Proactive, team‑focused attitude with the ability to work independently.
