Senior Procurement Professional – Infrastructure / Construction

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Procurement Professional to join a leading defence organisation in Barrow‑in‑Furness. This 6‑month contract role is hybrid (1–2 days onsite per week) and focuses on delivering sourcing, contracting and supply‑chain activities for complex infrastructure and construction programmes within a highly regulated environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide commercial and supply‑chain support across infrastructure and construction delivery programmes.
• Develop and manage procurement plans aligned with stakeholder and project requirements.
• Support tender development, evaluation and contract award processes.
• Identify, assess and mitigate procurement risks, issues and commercial liabilities.
• Ensure high‑quality procurement and contract documentation.
• Lead supplier negotiations to achieve optimal commercial outcomes.
• Contribute to supply‑chain strategy development and implementation.
• Manage communication and issue resolution throughout the procurement lifecycle.
• Maintain compliance with internal governance and external regulatory requirements.
• Support bid activity, cost planning and track cost‑saving initiatives.

Required profile

• Previous procurement or supply‑chain experience within the infrastructure or construction sector.
• Strong understanding of procurement processes, sourcing strategies and commercial principles.
• Experience managing supplier performance and contractual relationships.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Strong organisational ability to handle multiple priorities.
• BPSS and SC security clearance (UK Eyes Only) required.

Required skills

• Knowledge of JCT construction contracts.
• Knowledge of NEC construction contracts.
