Senior R&D Tax Specialist – London

About the role

Caribou is building a new R&D tax offering at the intersection of transfer pricing and innovation funding. The senior manager will own the product end‑to‑end, working alongside engineering to turn manual consulting work into a scalable service.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise directly with customers to assess R&D eligibility and understand their business.
• Own the end‑to‑end claim process, from intent notification through advance assurance, drafting, submission and defending enquiries.
• Translate real‑world claims experience into rules, checklists and logic for an automated product.
• Identify required proof and documentation, designing data capture that meets tax authority scrutiny.
• Explain R&D concepts to non‑specialists, from founders to accountants.
• Coordinate with customers' other advisors such as bookkeepers, lawyers and tax experts.
• Shape the R&D product – pricing, scope and the balance between automation and specialist handling.
• Determine reporting obligations and build workflows that generate necessary documents.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience with HMRC and/or IRS R&D claims, including defending claims under enquiry.
• Deep understanding of the proof and evidence required by tax authorities.
• Ownership mindset and ability to drive multiple projects with diverse stakeholders.
• Comfortable in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment with ambiguous, rapidly evolving priorities.
