Site Civil Engineer

About the role

Trant Engineering is seeking a Site Civil Engineer to lead on‑site delivery of civil works for National Grid projects across South East England. You will ensure civil structures, earthworks, drainage and related infrastructure are completed safely, on schedule and to the required quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Set out, inspect and verify civil works including earthworks, foundations, drainage, retaining structures and concrete/steel structures.
• Review civil engineering drawings, specifications and method statements, and resolve technical issues or design discrepancies.
• Promote and enforce safe systems of work, monitor site safety, environmental controls and quality compliance.
• Liaise with project managers, design teams and subcontractors to keep the programme on track and support commissioning and handover.

Required profile

• CSCS card and NVQ, Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Proven site‑based setting‑out experience covering earthworks, drainage, foundations and structures.
• Experience reading and interpreting civil drawings, specifications and method statements.
• Ability to coordinate and supervise subcontractors while adhering to health, safety, quality and environmental standards.

Required skills

• CSCS certification.
• SMSTS / SSSTS (desirable).
• Setting‑out and surveying techniques.
• Earthworks, drainage and foundation installation.
• Interpretation of civil engineering drawings and specifications.
• Coordination of subcontractors and site teams.
