Social Housing Assessment and Lettings Officer

About the role

The Social Housing Assessment and Lettings Officer will evaluate housing applications against relevant legislation and council policies. Working within the housing team, you will ensure that applicants are fairly assessed and allocated appropriate accommodation.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate and assess applicants under the Housing Act 1985, Housing Act 1996 (Part VI), Localism Act 2011 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Interview applicants, verify information with external organisations, and conduct home visits where required.
• Prioritise applications according to council allocation policy and banding guidelines.
• Draft and serve decision letters, outlining reasons and rights to review.
• Collaborate with the Housing Management Team on mutual exchanges, successions, tenancy assignments, transfers and terminations.
• Investigate incidents of racial or sexual harassment and take appropriate action.

Required profile

• Knowledge of UK housing legislation and council allocation procedures.
• Strong analytical and investigative abilities.
• Excellent written communication for decision letters.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
