About the role
We are seeking an enthusiastic SEN Teacher to join Strawberry Lane School in Durham. The role focuses on supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition and complex needs, delivering personalised learning that builds confidence and independence.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, creative lessons tailored to the individual needs of pupils with autism and complex needs.
- Adapt teaching strategies to maximise engagement, achievement and personal development.
- Create a calm, inclusive and nurturing classroom environment.
- Monitor, assess and celebrate pupil progress, using assessment data to inform future learning.
- Teach across a range of curriculum areas where appropriate.
- Collaborate with teaching assistants, therapists, families and the multidisciplinary team.
- Contribute to curriculum development, school improvement initiatives and whole‑school life.
- Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, wellbeing and inclusive practice.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant degree.
- Experience working with pupils who have Autism Spectrum Condition and complex needs.
- Passion for inclusive education and helping every child achieve their full potential.
- Creative, adaptable and able to personalise learning.
- Strong relationship‑building skills with pupils, families and colleagues.
- Reflective, resilient and committed to continuous professional development.
- Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
Required skills
What we offer
- Salary up to £42,500 per annum (depending on experience).
- 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, term‑time only.
- Permanent contract.
- Start date in September 2026.
