Tax Investigations Assistant Manager

About the role

We are seeking a Tax Investigations Assistant Manager to join a specialist Tax Disputes team within a respected accountancy practice. You will work on a diverse portfolio of HMRC enquiries, disclosures and dispute resolution matters, supporting high‑net‑worth individuals, owner‑managed businesses and corporate clients.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of HMRC enquiries and tax dispute cases.
• Assist with COP8, COP9, voluntary disclosures and offshore matters.
• Prepare responses to HMRC information requests, appeals and technical correspondence.
• Support senior colleagues on complex investigations and litigation.
• Liaise directly with HMRC and clients throughout the enquiry process.
• Assist with Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Tribunal preparation when required.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to their technical development.

Required profile

• Experience managing HMRC investigations or tax dispute cases within a practice.
• Previous HMRC experience or accountancy practice background in tax investigations is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of HMRC enquiry processes, disclosures and tax disputes.
• ACA, ACCA and/or CTA qualification (or working towards one).
• Proactive approach with the ability to build trusted client relationships.
